Harrogate Borough Council is set to decide upon changes to the single-sex sessions at the Harrogate Turkish Baths.
At the momment there is a single male-only session and 3 female-only sessions. The proposal will be debated by HBC on 23 April 20201, and will include a proposal to make the wearing of swimwear compulsory. The wearing of swimwear in single sex sessions is currently optional.
The changes are being proposed for:
- Promote inclusivity
- Ensure that the Council will meet its equality obligations under the Equality Act 2010 in delivering services and complying with its Public Sector Equality Duty
- Enable both male and female Turkish baths attendants to work at both sessions as having to source female or male only staff for a particular single sex sessions can cause operational staffing
The proposals foll a consultation exercise from July 2020.
