2 February 2016

Martyn Weller, the highly regarded Chair of Disability Action Yorkshire, has announced his intention to retire.

Martyn has been a member of the charity’s Board of Trustees for over ten years, serving as Chair for seven of them.

  • Disability Action Yorkshire is a charity provides services that create opportunities for disabled people to live the lifestyle of their choosing

  • The charity is based on Hornbeam Park in Harrogate

Commenting on his experience of leading the Trustee Board, Martyn said:

I have thoroughly enjoyed my time as a Trustee and Chair of Disability Action Yorkshire.

The organisation has been through tremendous changes over the past ten years as it’s progressed to being one of the most respected organisations supporting the disabled community in the Harrogate area.

The quality of the work that the team undertakes has been recognised by a number of external awards.

In particular I’m very proud that the Duke of York’s Community award saw us as making an important contribution to the community and as being an inspiration to others.

As someone who has been disabled since birth I am passionate about ensuring that disabled people have the same opportunities available to them as other members of our community.

Disability Action Yorkshire continues to develop at a fast pace and has exciting plans for the future. Despite announcing my intention to retire from the role of Chair I will stay in post until an appropriate successor has been appointed.

Disability Action Yorkshire has started the search for its next Chair of the Board of Trustees and is looking for candidates who have experience at Board or senior management level in either the voluntary, commercial or public sectors.

The successful candidate will be an inspirational leader who has a deep understanding of strategic management and organisational governance.

Above all they will be passionate about the quality of service and the support which the organisation provides to the disabled community.

Jackie Snape, Disability Action Yorkshire Chief executive said:

Martyn has been a fantastic Chair and we are indebted to him for his decade of sound judgement, skilled diplomacy and dedication to our organisation.
