Special ceremony for those who have lost a baby

10 September 2014

We are all affected by the death of a loved one, but losing a child is one of the most difficult a parent and their families will ever have to deal with.

Harrogate Borough Council’s Bereavement Services Team is working with the Leeds and York Branches of SANDS (Stillbirth and Neonatal Death Society) to organise a special ceremony for bereaved parents and their families.

Everyone affected, no matter how long ago, is welcome to attend this Service of Gentle Remembrance at Harrogate’s Stonefall Cemetery Chapel, Wetherby Road, Harrogate on Saturday, 20 September 2014 between 2.00 and 4.00 pm.

The service will include music and words to remember and time to visit the SANDS baby memorial and garden in the grounds of the cemetery, which is dedicated to the memory of babies and children; and the opportunity to talk to others who have had a similar experience. There will be some light refreshments available.

The aim of SANDS is to support anyone affected by the death of a baby; working in partnership with health professionals to improve the quality of care and services offered to bereaved families; and promote research and changes in practice that could help reduce the loss of babies’ lives.
