This week more than 50 young rugby players attended the third annual summer skills at Rugby Club.

The club has teamed up with ACES (Active Community Education in Sport) to hold two weeks of rugby coaching for experienced players and beginners aged 6-16 years old for the first time at its new Rudding Lane ground.

ACES is a Yorkshire based sports education company, led by qualified teacher and 1st team centre Kyle Dench.

During term time, ACES provide PE teaching, mentor class teachers, run competitions and provide after activities within schools across Harrogate and Yorkshire. In summer ACES multi-sports and rugby camps invite children of all abilities and backgrounds to fun and affordable sports camps.

Each day budding players will develop fundamental rugby skills of movement, handling and decision making. Kicking and contact will also be developed throughout the week within groups that are age and experience specific.

Joe Rowntree, camp coordinator said:

We have had a great week so far teaching the children the skills needed to play rugby. There are still places available for next week and we’d love to see as many young players here as possible – no matter what level they are. The summer skills school is a fun and active way to keep the kids entertained during the holidays.

Mike Aspinall, director of rugby said:

It is so good to see so many youngsters attending the summer school. This is the first time that it has been at the new ground and it is fantastic to see the new facilities put to good use and everyone having a great time.
