Make a real difference in your community and become a PCSO

24 September 2013

North Yorkshire Police have launched a recruitment campaign for Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs).

They are looking for caring, community-minded people who want to improve the quality of life in their neighbourhoods. Posts are available in locations across the county.

North Yorkshire Police currently has 176 PCSOs; this new recruitment campaign is designed to increase this to the full complement as well as maintain numbers as PCSOs progress their careers. Julia Mulligan, the county’s Police and Crime Commissioner, and Dave Jones, North Yorkshire Police’s Chief Constable, recently committed to doing everything possible to maintain police officer and PCSO numbers at 1,392 and 183 respectively.

Julia Mulligan, Police and Crime Commissioner for North Yorkshire, said:

PCSOs make a real difference to local people and play a big part in making our county the safest in England. What’s more, over the course of the past few months I have received many extremely positive comments about PCSOs and their integral role as members of our communities. This recruitment drive also demonstrates that despite challenging times, I am fully committed to a strong and resilient frontline policing force, which is so very essential to keeping North Yorkshire safe.

The role demands people who are first class communicators and proven problem solvers with high levels of professionalism and personal resilience.

They also provide an essential link with councils, schools and other partner agencies to address issues that matter most to residents.

Chief Constable Dave Jones said:

PCSOs play a vital role within North Yorkshire Police and provide a really valuable presence within our communities.

Building positive relationships with local residents and businesses is very important to the way neighbourhood policing is delivered in the county and recruiting more PCSOs can only help to make these relationships stronger.

This latest recruitment campaign confirms the commitment that the Commissioner and I have made to maintaining numbers on the frontline in North Yorkshire and the City of York.
