In the midst of another national lockdown, non-for-profit organisation, Harrogate Neighbours is helping people in the community to celebrate ‘special moments’ with affordable Afternoon Tea boxes and added extras delivered to their door.

  • Elderly couple celebrating their 50th Valentine’s Day together to receive first box
  • For every box sold, £1 to be donated to Resurrected Bites

Filled with firm favourites, including ham and cheese sandwiches and a selection of home-made cakes, the boxes will be priced at £9.95 and £1 from every box sold will be donated to Resurrected Bites which supports families in Harrogate, Knaresborough, Nidderdale and Ripon affected by the pandemic with food parcels. In addition, Harrogate Neighours is also providing added extras, such as flowers and balloons to help create memorable moments.

Celebrating their 50th Valentine’s Day together, Shirley and Mick Flynn, the first couple to move into The Cuttings, an extra care facility run by Harrogate Neighbours will be the first to receive a complimentary ‘Special Moments’ box on 14 February.

The couple, who were both born and raised in Harrogate have been married for 46 years and moved into The Cuttings in 2018 where they receive extra support from carers.

More affordable for the current clientele and the services provided, Harrogate Neighbours aims to appeal to those who may want to do something extra special for a family member or friend in an affordable and memorable way, whilst supporting the efforts of the Resurrected Bites initiative.

Speaking on behalf of Harrogate Neighbours, CEO Sue Cawthray said:

Celebrating special occasions can be difficult to do in lockdown, particularly within the older generation, so we wanted to provide an affordable service that people could access to celebrate special days like Valentine’s Day, birthdays and anniversaries. We’re so lucky to have the kitchen space on site to create made-to-order boxes and the amazing volunteers who will help us to deliver the boxes. Due to this, we are also in a position to donate £1 from every box sold to the fantastic Resurrected Bites initiative to support families all over the region who have been adversely affected by the pandemic.

Michelle Hayes, Director of Resurrected Bites added:

We are so grateful to Harrogate Neighbours for fundraising for Resurrected Bites. I think it is such a lovely idea to provide an afternoon tea which will be such a lovely treat for people to look forward to.
