Double sporting success for former Harrogate Grammar School brothers

2 February 2016

Harrogate Grammar School are delighted to hear news from former students about what they are getting up to and so were thrilled to hear about Axel and Mika Brown’s latest sporting achievements, via mum, Carolyn Rothwell of Home Grown Gardens.

On Saturday 16 January 2016, Axel was part of the British Bobsleigh team, competing in the Europe Cup in Igls, Austria.

Whilst Axel was in the snow and ice of Austria, his younger brother Mika was on the other side of the world in Melbourne, Australia taking part in a triathlon. Mika is based in Melbourne for 6 months and on Sunday 17th, took part in the Active Tri R3, coming 1st in his category: 20-24 age group and 8th overall! Mika has qualified for and represented GB age group Triathlon for a number of years now, both at World Championships and Europeans. He was also UK National U20 Triathlon Champion. Congratulations to both of them on such wonderful achievements.

Mum is also very talented and despite them both having now left Harrogate Grammar School, she still comes into the school and tends to some beautiful flower beds and gardens around our site, on a voluntary basis, for which HGS are incredibly grateful.
