Deputy Chief Constable Tim Madgwick today (16 May) takes up the post of Temporary Chief Constable of North Yorkshire Police.

Following the retirement of Chief Constable Grahame Maxwell, this arrangement will enable the Police and Crime Commissioner, to be elected in November this year, to make a substantive appointment as soon as he/she deems it appropriate.

Jane Kenyon, Chairman of NYPA, said:

The Authority is delighted that Mr. Madgwick is now temporarily acting as Chief Constable. He is a talented officer and clearly has the support of the authority and the force and is highly regarded by his senior colleagues and others both within and outside North Yorkshire Police.

T/Chief Constable Tim Madgwick added:

I am delighted and very honored to be offered this opportunity to continue serving the people of North Yorkshire and the City of York in the role of Chief Constable. One of the fundamental aspects of North Yorkshire Police is the quality of service we currently and will continue to consistently provide. I will encourage the relentless pursuit of those people who cause, or indeed wish to cause, harm to others and my aim is for us to build safe, confident and resilient communities throughout these difficult and challenging times.

The year promises to be a significant one not least with the celebrations around the Olympics and other major sporting events but also the election of the Police and Crime Commissioner in November.

One of the key issues for me throughout the year is that we continue to work with and engage our communities, building on feedback that we receive and providing the best service that we can. My first opportunity to talk with the public will be in my online discussion tonight between 5 and 6:30pm, and I really hope you can log on (www.northyorkshire.police.uk/live) and join in the conversation.
