Homeless people occupy tents in Valley Gardens

5 December 2014

A number of tents have been erected within the woodland in Valley Gardens in Harrogate and are believed to be being used by Polish immigrants.

There have been two camps set-up, one near to the war memorial, that has since  been vacated leaving rubbish. There is another camp near to Valley Drive that was visibly in use on Thursday 4 December 2014.

Both camps have brought considerable mess with them.

A spokesperson for Harrogate Borough Council said:

Harrogate Borough Council is aware that three homeless people have been occupying tents at the top of Valley Gardens.

Officers have been in contact with them and have been working with the relevant authorities including the police to resolve the situation.

The tents have been vacated and we are intending to clear the area early next week if it has not already been done so by the owners of the tents.
