Man now charged following road death in York

Detectives in York have charged a man with manslaughter as they continue their appeal to trace two other men involved in the incident.

A 20-year-old man has tonight – Sunday 12 October 2014 – been charged with manslaughter and is due to appear at York Magistrates’ Court on Monday 13 October 2014.

The appearance relates to an incident which took place at around 1.50am on Saturday 11 October 2014m, on Haxby Road, York, which resulted in the death of a 21-year-old man after he was hit by a taxi. It is believed he had been involved in a violent incident a short time before being struck by the car.
Detectives still need to trace two men who were at the scene of the incident and they are strongly advised to hand themselves in to the police.

Detective Inspector Andrea Kell, of York CID, said: I still need to speak to the two men who were at the scene of the incident. I urge anyone who can help us to trace them to contact the police straight away.

The 16-year-old girl and 20-year-old woman, who were assisting the police, have now been released on bail to allow for further police enquiries.
