Witness appeal following Thornton Steward collision

PolicePolice are appealing for witnesses following a serious road traffic collision near Ripon.

It occurred at approximately 3.15am on Sunday 4 December 2011, when a silver Mitsubishi Warrior, travelling on an unclassified road from Thornton Steward towards Finghall, left the road on a sharp right hand bend close to the reservoir before hitting a tree.

The three men in the car, who are all aged 23 and from the local area, were taken to Darlington Memorial Hospital. One of the passengers, a man from Carthorpe, was later transferred to James Cook University Hospital with a serious head injury, where he currently remains in a critical condition. The driver and second passenger remain in Darlington Memorial Hospital in stable conditions.

Traffic Sergeant Clare Sawyer, of North Yorkshire Police’s Roads Policing Group, said:

I am urging anyone who may have seen the car prior to the collision to come forward and contact the police as soon as possible.
