Urgent witness appeal after cyclist seriously injured in Pannal

14 January 2011

Harrogate police are making an urgent appeal for a key witness to come forward after a cyclist was seriously injured in Pannal.

Police are keen to trace the driver of a silver or grey Audi which left the scene shortly after the incident occurred at approximately 12.10pm today (Friday 14 January 2011), on Station Road.

Officers were called by paramedics treating the victim, a man in his 60s, who had fallen from his bicycle. It is unclear how the man came off his bike, however he sustained serious head injuries in the incident and is currently undergoing treatment at Harrogate District Hospital.

Police are conducting investigations at the scene of incident and believe that the driver of the Audi may have information vital to the enquiry.

Traffic Sergeant Ian Pope, of Harrogate Road Policing Group, said: “It is very important that the driver of the Audi comes forward and provides us with any information he or she may have about the incident. “It may be that they haven’t seen anything, however if that is the case they still need to come forward, so we can rule them out of our enquiries. “I am also interested in speaking to anyone else who witnessed the incident or anyone who has any information that can help us establish how this man fell from his bicycle.”

Anyone with information that can help the police with their enquiries is urged to contact TS Ian Pope, of Harrogate Road Policing Group, on 0845 60 60 24 7, quoting reference number NYP-14012011-0212.
