Family fun day to raise funds for Bilton and Woodfield community library

11 July 2016

Free family fun is promised at Bilton and Woodfield Community Library on Saturday 16 July, as it opens its doors for the second ever Community Day.

The fun day, featuring special performances, stalls and visits from blue light services, is back following the success of last year’s event which was held with support from the My Neighbourhood Project.

‘My Neighbourhood’ is a partnership project co-ordinated by Harrogate Borough Council, with representatives from the public, voluntary and community sector as well as the local community, working together to improve the quality of life for Woodfield residents.

The Community Day will be raising funds for the library, which is the only community operated library in Harrogate.

Betty Lupton’s Ladle Lakers and the Sit and be Fit group will be putting in an appearance, along with the Mayor of the Borough of Harrogate, Councillor Nick Brown.

There will be a pop up café, a book stall, stalls from various local organisations, security marking by the Police, and fire and safety advice from the fire brigade.

The day will also mark the launch of the Summer Reading Challenge, a national project to help maintain reading by primary school children during the summer holidays. The theme this year is Roald Dahl.

Greta Knight is the Chairman of Bilton and Woodfield Community Library.  She said:

Following the move to our new home in the grounds of Woodfield school in September 2014 we have developed our programme of activities for all ages. North Yorkshire County Council provides us with the building and book stock and we welcome people from across the borough to our courses and groups.

Our Community Day is a way for us to showcase what’s available. We receive incredible support from our community, and look forward to welcoming everyone on the 16th of July.

The Community Day starts at 10am and runs until 12.30pm.  The community library is in Woodfield Road in the grounds of Woodfield school.
