Come and discover the magic of Forest School — where learning comes alive in nature

Families are invited to enjoy the benefits of outdoor learning with a series of free community preschool Forest School sessions, taking place at two Harrogate Primary schools.

These weekly, term time sessions will take place after the Easter holidays till the end of the summer term.

  • Wednesdays at New Park, 9:30–10:30am- starting from 15th April.
  • Thursdays at Hookstone Chase, 9:00–10:00am- starting from 16th April.

Designed for preschool-aged children from 2 years old, the Forest School sessions offer a holistic, child-centred approach to learning, supporting children’s physical, emotional, social and cognitive development through hands-on experiences in nature.
The schools are providing the sessions as part of their community outreach, activities are led by Hollie Bailey, a trained forest school leader and primary school teacher at New Park.

Hollie said:

Forest School is widely recognised for its positive impact on children’s confidence, resilience and wellbeing.

By spending time outdoors in all weathers, children are encouraged to explore, take safe risks, problem-solve and develop a deep connection with the natural world.

These early experiences help nurture independence, creativity and a lifelong love of learning.

Each session will include a variety of engaging activities such as fire lighting and toasting marshmallows, forest crafts using natural materials, mud kitchen play, and den building. Sessions are adapted to suit the interests and developmental stages of the children, allowing them to learn at their own pace through play and exploration.
