Saint Michael’s Hospice is proud to be part of phase two of the nationwide This is Hospice Care campaign led by Hospice UK, which highlights how hospice care is about so much more than end-of-life care. It’s about creating memories and cherishing moments of love and connection.
With one in three patients at Saint Michael’s cared for thanks to gifts in Wills, this generous support is vital to ensuring local families can continue to experience the comfort, dignity and special moments’ hospice care makes possible. One of these is the story of Mandy and her family.
Saint Michael’s had the privilege of caring for Mandy on their Inpatient Unit, where they were honoured to have been able to grant her and her family one last Christmas together, before she died on 12 December 2024.
Christmas was Mandy’s favourite time of year. With the support of the hospice team, she and her family were able to celebrate early with decorations, lights, music, and even a full festive dinner cooked by the hospice chef.
Her husband Roy said:
The entire team went above and beyond to make our Christmas Day as special as it could possibly be. We opened presents, pulled crackers, laughed, and cried.
Most importantly, we created cherished Christmas memories in a way only Saint Michael’s could make possible and for that we will be forever grateful.
Special experiences like Mandy’s are possible thanks to the generosity of those who choose to leave a gift in their Will. These gifts help to fund Saint Michael’s care and ensure families across the Harrogate district can spend meaningful time together.
Tony Collins, Chief Executive of Saint Michael’s Hospice, said:
Hospice care is about more than managing symptoms, it’s about making space for love, laughter, and togetherness.
With one in three of our patients cared for thanks to gifts in Wills, this support is vital to ensuring we can continue to provide not just expert care, but also the chance to create memories that last a lifetime.
A gift in your Will is the most meaningful legacy you can leave.
