Rethink Mental Health Support group, a voluntary led support group re-launched on Wednesday 10 October 2018, World Mental Health Day.

The Harrogate group, part of National Rethink’s network of support groups, meets monthly to provide opportunities for people to share mental health information and receive mutual support through shared experience, and to increase opportunities to socialise with like-minded, welcoming and inclusive people.

The group has been in existence for over thirty years. It is run by and welcomes people who have lived experience of Mental Health issues, carers, family members and friends, in Harrogate and surrounding areas.

The group decided it was time to refresh what they offer to people and to make the group more accessible to potential new members. The regional Rethink Officer and Mental Health Carer’s Worker from North Yorkshire County Council worked with dedicated group members over the summer to make the changes.

The group will now meet monthly at the Music Room at St Peters Church, Cambridge Road, Harrogate, HG1 1PB, (opposite the Cenotaph) on the second Wednesday of every month, 11.30am to 1.30pm.

The group have a lending library and from time to time invite speakers from across Health, Social Care and other organisations along to speak about issues relating to mental health. There are a variety of social opportunities outside of meetings throughout the year, including theatre trips, meals out and walking, as decided by members; as well as fund raising events. Members are welcome to volunteer and take part in the running of the group if they wish to.

At the re-launch meeting a longstanding member gave a brief history of the group, its activities and the people involved in setting up this much needed support group, over the past thirty years.

Refreshments will be provided, and the group welcome people bringing their own lunchtime snacks along to meetings. The accessible venue is near to the bus and train station, and there is nearby car parks and on-street parking.

Everyone is welcome to attend the Harrogate Rethink support Group meetings at St Peter’s Church or for more information call 07527 103 468
