Temporary lights were installed on Skipton road on Monday, 19 March 2018, at the junction of Woodfield Road and Kings Road.
These have now been removed by Northern Gas Networks have removed as it has come to light that they were working without a permit.
A North Yorkshire County Council spokesman said:
The temporary traffic lights were set up by Northern Gas Networks. They have been told to take down the lights and issued with a £500 fixed penalty notice for working without a permit. Under the scheme introduced in February to improve the control and management of work across the county’s roads, all scheduled work must be granted a permit by the county council.
