StrEAT food festival moves from the Valley Gardens to the Great Yorkshire Showground

8 February 2018

The StrEat Food and Family Fun Festival will now take place at the Great Yorkshire Showground, Harrogate.

The move has been forced to to difficulty with the volume of people that visited the event when it was held in Valley Gardens.

Organiser, Cathy McConaghy, said:

The UK’s only National Street Food Festival will remain in the heart of the country, at the amazing Great Yorkshire Showground, Harrogate. Not only a fantastic venue but synonymous with hosting large and prestigious events and providing easy access from across the UK. With over 50 of the UK’s most eclectic, creative and passionate street food traders we are looking forward to having the space and flexibility to create an amazing weekend for the young, the old and the hungry!

The event will take place on 26 – 28 May 2018 and will have a collection of Street Food traders along with a vintage themed festival. It will include a vintage fun fair, comedy clairvoyants, acrobats, coconut shies, stilt walkers, bath tub rides, chill out music, walk-around bands and entertainers.

Tickets are £6 for an adult with ages 13 and under free – for entry over all 3 days.

  1. This is total rubbish for the people of Harrogate , so the christmas fair which is totally overflowed with people is allowed in a cramped space , seriously why don’t they ask what the people of Harrogate would like !! 🤬

    • £6 is worth it if the events organised right.. shame everything good gets turned into money pit but hopefully it will stay @£6

      • Won’t be the same atmosphere, the local traders in town will suffer too as they will lose the trade it brought in.

    • Most of the people have said that they wanted it in Valley Gardens, however the council kicked up a fuss about it. Apparently they are only happy to host events there that make them money.

  2. What a shame that an accessible free community event has been forced out of town to the wasteland that is YSG. No transport, can’t just walk down to it and now £6 as they’ll have to pay for the venue. What a shame for the thousands who enjoyed it in Valley Gardens. Congratulations to the Nimby crew on keeping the publicense out of our public gardens.

  3. What a shame it’s moved out of town – it brought large numbers of people into town that also benefited local traders. Now the only ones that will benefit will be the YEC getting their pockets lined. Had a fantastic day in town last time, wandering round, exploring and then eating at the festival. Just won’t be the same…

  4. Could we please have the traders selling small taster portions as due to the focus being on the food I’d like to try as many stalls as I can but if every one is selling only full portions it gets a bit much!
And £6 for three days is not a lot really! (I’m hoping the parking is free!)

  5. I don’t understand the rationale of paying an entrance fee to buy food. Although the ticket allows 3 days entrance I would doubt many would go more than once even if there was some sort of entertainment on offer,
