The Snowman and Paddington at the Royal Hall – Opera North’s Christmas series

6 November 2015

Opera North welcomes one and all to their annual programme of Christmas concerts with the Orchestra of Opera North – a festive family fixture and the perfect way to celebrate the season.

As part of the Visit Leeds ‘Magical Leeds’ season a free Festive Fanfare at Trinity Leeds on 10 December will herald the beginning of the company’s Christmas celebrations. The Chorus of Opera North and a brass ensemble from the Orchestra of Opera North will be joined by 150 children from Windmill and Low Road Primary Schools who have been participating in Opera North’s In Harmony Community Residency programme. The half hour concert of much-loved Christmas hymns interspersed with rousing brass band music will begin at 2.30pm on the ground floor of the shopping centre – and singing along is encouraged.

Continuing the festivities in spectacular fashion, the Orchestra of Opera North are joined by Leeds Festival Chorus for a beautifully crafted performance of one of the best-loved musical events of the season, Handel’s Messiah at Leeds Town Hall on 12 December.

Kicking off the Orchestra of Opera North’s Yuletide family concert programme is a double bill of The Snowman & Paddington Bear’s First Concert. This charming event for all ages tells the story of Paddington Bear as he goes to his very first concert and hears the music of Schubert, Haydn and Rossini.

The Snowman and Paddington Bear’s First Concert is an ideal opportunity to introduce live orchestral music to younger family members and friends – and a prelude to your festivities! – 15 December 2015
