Harrogate coffee shop serves up welcome donation to Disability Action Yorkshire

27 October 2015

An independent Harrogate coffee shop and tea house has served up a welcome donation to a town-based organisation supporting young, disabled adults.

Bean & Bud, on Commercial Street, has handed over its latest full collection tin to Disability Action Yorkshire, taking the total raised to more than £500.

Bean & Bud co-owner Ruth Hampson said:

We chose to support Disability Action Yorkshire primarily because it is a local charity helping local people.

We have had one of their collection boxes on our counter now for the last couple of years, and they get full with some regularity.

Our customers are very supportive and place change for their drinks and food in the tin. I also ask those coming to use our ‘facilities’ that if they want to spend a penny they also need to put some coins in the Disability Action Yorkshire tin.

Disability Action Yorkshire chief executive Jackie Snape said:

I’d like to say a huge thank you to Ruth, her team and the Bean & Bud customers for their continued generosity.

If it wasn’t for the support of organisations, individuals and businesses such as   Bean & Bud, we would not be able to undertake the work we do in helping young, disabled people lead as individual lives as possible.

We are incredibly appreciative of any support, be in monetary or in the form of furniture, ornaments and books that we sell in our highly popular furniture enterprise.

Not only does it generate valuable income, it also gives our service users experience in retail and customer service.”
