Raworths solicitor and employment law specialist, James Austin is gaining a national reputation in employment law for the care sector after he was a speaker at the recent Care Show at the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham.

The national event covered all areas of the care sector and James was one of a number of speakers (including Jackie Brook, Director of CareIndustryNews.co.uk; Alison Taylor, Specialist Business Appraiser, DC Care and Derek Breingan, Head of Healthcare Sector for Clydesdale/Yorkshire Bank in UK) who spoke about ways of improving occupancy.

This was followed more recently by a well-attended event hosted by Raworths Solicitors and held at the Pavilions at the Great Yorkshire Showground.

The event was aimed specifically at employers in the care sector. James Austin’s presentation covered conducting disciplinary hearings where residents and service users may have been subjected to physical, emotional or financial misconduct by those paid to care for them.

Neil Allen, London-based barrister, also gave a presentation on deprivation of liberty, mental capacity, and safeguarding vulnerable adults. Neil Allen is an expert in mental health law and recently acted for local authorities in the landmark deprivation of liberty case P v Cheshire West and Cheshire Council in the Supreme Court.

Raworths’ head of Employment law, Deborah Boylan said: James has developed this specialism in the care sector and is becoming increasingly well known in this field. He is an expert in this rapidly developing area.
