Knaresborough Community Day to be held

23 January 2014

A Community Day is to be held for the people of Knaresborough and surrounding areas.

Organised by the Knaresborough Lions, it will focus on issues facing the whole community ranging from health to community developments, with the emphasis on providing advice from public and private services and showing what those services can offer.

A number of organisations will be on hand to demonstrate their services and to discuss how they can help when required.

The Knaresborough Community Day is to be held at the Centre on Gracious Street, also known as COGS, all day from 10 am to 4 pm on Saturday 26 April 2014, said John Moore, Vice President of the Lions.

John Moore said: This is an ideal location, being in the town centre with adjacent parking and disabled access.

Wheelchair transport will be available on the day and there will be a free shuttle service to the main housing areas for those who would otherwise find it difficult to get there.

A number of organisations have already signed up for the day, including the police, fire and rescue services, Knaresborough First Responders, medical, charities, advisory and other social services. Qualified nurses will be on hand to provide diabetes testing and blood pressure checks.

Each organisation will have a booth and will provide advice and answer enquiries. Our local MP Andrew Jones has agreed to open the event and will run a clinic for those with questions for him.

The event is free for anyone who wants to pop in. The Lions are providing complimentary tea and coffee and there will be other catering available at modest prices.

Young and old, families and those on their own – all are welcome. We would like to attract anyone who is not aware of the wide range of local services that is available.

People interested in finding out more about this event or lending their expertise can email or ring Lion President Malcolm Jennings on 01423 897961.
