They Will Rock U! – a sneak peek behind the scenes

9 November 2013

It certainly feels as though Rock Up and Sing! are never out of the Royal Hall these days!

With recent highlights including a surprise performance at Harrogate’s Hospitality & Tourism Awards and previously in concert for British Thyroid Foundation, it comes as no surprise that this thriving and exciting family of choirs has chosen their spiritual home, the Royal Hall, as the venue for their latest ‘blockbuster’ They Will Rock U! this coming weekend.

They Will Rock U! is a 300 voices taking part in 3 performances as a ‘rock weekend’ aimed to thrill and entertain audiences old and new, showcasing a brand new repertoire of rock band music including Bat out of Hell, Ain’t No Mountain, Wild Horses and We are the Champions.

The assembled choir is actually so big it spills from the stage onto the main hall and at times performers take to the boxes nearest the stage.

Rhiannon Gayle, Founder and Musical Director of Rock Up and Sing! said:

This concert is incredibly exciting as it is the first time we have combined all the choirs in the majority of the songs and the result is quite simply staggering! I am immensely proud of all my singers and their hard work and determination.

A sneak peak from behind the scenes from Friday’s rehearsals:

This exciting concert will also introduce audiences to Rhiannon’s dynamic side-kick, Andrew Matthews – Rock Up and Sing’s newest conductor – who rehearses the Wednesday choir. Rock Up and Sing!’s vibrant Youth Choir (young people aged 12 – 22 years), last seen at the Royal Hall for British Thyroid Foundation and more famously at Leeds Town Hall in January for Le Grande Depart Celebration Evening, will also be bringing their own brand of fun, energy and excitement to the proceedings.

Rock Up and Sing! are supporting Harrogate based children’s charity, Open Arms Malawi for this concert. With one of the ‘houses’ for orphaned children in Malawi already called ‘Harrogate House’ after an immense fundraising campaign in Harrogate a few years ago, this is a charity already dear to the town’s heart.
