Knaresborough teen arrested over violent disturbance in Malton

A 16-year-old boy from Knaresborough was detained on Tuesday afternoon and questioned by officers in connection with an incident in Malton. He has been released on police bail while the investigation continues.

Officers are still appealing for information from members of the public and are urging anyone who saw a large group of people alight from two vehicles in Malton, and the violent incident which followed, to contact them.

At around 12.50pm two vehicles pulled up in Milton Avenue and a group of around 10 people got out carrying implements including a baseball bat and garden tools.

policeThey approached a property and threatened the occupant before some of the group began fighting with three people in the street.

They would also like to hear from anyone who saw the vehicles driving away.

Thankfully the victims, three local men, sustained only minor injuries as a result of the attack.

In addition to the latest arrest, police arrested three people in connection with the incident at the time and arrested two further suspects on Tuesday morning (27 August 2013). All six suspects have been given police bail while the investigation continues.

While we believe the incident to be an isolated one and that the wider community were not at risk, the incident caused alarm among local people. For added reassurance, the mobile police office staffed by the local Safer Neighbourhood Team remains in Milton Avenue for members of the public to speak to officers.
