A Right Royal Brew from Theakston to Celebrate the Diamond Jubilee!

31 May 2012

A Yorkshire brewery has created a beer with a right royal twist!

2012 is turning out to be a quite a year for celebration, the highlight of course being Her Majesty the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. To help the nation celebrate, Masham-based brewer T&R Theakston Ltd has brewed a very special ale appropriately named Royal Salute.

In addition to the Queen’s 60 years on the throne, 2012 marks two other significant milestones – The North Riding Dales LVA (Licensed Victuallers Association) Golden Jubilee and Theakston’s 185th birthday.

Long standing members of the LVA committee were invited by Brewery Director, Simon Theakston, to mark their anniversary, by assisting in the brewing of this special commemorative brew, which will be available in the market throughout the month of June.

Royal Salute is a strong pale ale brewed using the finest pale and crystal barley. With a right royal twist the recipe includes an abundance of the aptly named Sovereign hops and at a strength of 5% ABV, it is a beer fit for a King or Queen!

Theakston’s, which is best known for its legendary Old Peculier, first started brewing beer in 1827, ten years before Queen Victoria ascended the throne.

T&R Theakston Ltd Executive Director Simon Theakston said:

2012 is proving to be a year of constant celebration.

We are just fortunate that our 185th birthday happens to coincide with Her Majesty’s Diamond Jubilee and so to brew a very special ale to mark the occasion seemed precisely the right thing to do.

In addition the North Riding Dales LVA are celebrating their 50th Anniversary which will be hosted by Theakstons at their annual celebration in December, and so to invite some of the members to start this special brew seemed apt!

We are all looking forward to the forthcoming Diamond Jubilee celebrations, where we shall be raising a glass of Royal Salute as our own tribute to Her Majesty The Queen.
