Elderly pedestrian airlifted following Ripon collision

PoliceNorth Yorkshire Police officers are currently at the scene of a serious road traffic collision in Ripon.

At around 3.35pm on Monday 9 January 2012 an elderly pedestrian was hit by a black Vauxhall Corsa at Hutton Bank (A61). She suffered serious head injuries in the collision and has been taken to Leeds General Infirmary by air ambulance.

The elderly woman involved in the collision was hit as she crossed the A61 Harrogate road after leaving Ripon city centre. She was carrying shopping bags as she crossed the carriageway towards Sharrow Lane.

The road is currently closed in both directions and is expected to remain closed for some time, as police conduct their investigations into the incident.

Anyone with information that could help the investigation is urged to contact Traffic Constable Steve Wood on 101 – select option 2 – and ask for him by name.
