Tim MadgwickNorth Yorkshire Police Authority has announced that Tim Madgwick (pictured right) has been offered and has accepted the position of Deputy Chief Constable (DCC) for North Yorkshire Police.

Tim has for the last 6 months been serving as Temporary DCC, prior to which he was Assistant Chief Constable for North Yorkshire Police between October 2009 and June 2011.

Mr. Madgwick has been with North Yorkshire Police for 23 years; having joined in 1988 at the age of 30 after careers in both education and private business.

Jane Kenyon, Chairman of the Police Authority said:

We are absolutely delighted to offer Tim this position. Tim’s appointment will be warmly welcomed, I am certain, by all in North Yorkshire and City of York. His wealth of knowledge not only of the area but the issues we face are second to none; having served his entire police career with us.

This last year has been one of the most challenging financially that we have faced for many years and Tim has worked successfully as part of the Strategic Leadership Team to ensure that we are well placed to face current and future challenges. This next year is to be equally challenging and changing with the introduction of an elected Police and Crime Commissioner and the full impact of the Police Reform and Social Responsibility Act to be realised. I am absolutely convinced that Tim will provide our Officers, staff and communities with the guidance and reassurance of continuing to give the best policing service that we can through this period.

Mr Madgwick said:

I am delighted and so incredibly honoured to be offered the opportunity to serve the people of North Yorkshire and the City of York as the Deputy Chief Constable of North Yorkshire Police.

This is my home force, having lived in the area since 1985, and nothing could give me greater pride or pleasure of continuing to deliver the best possible service for our communities as DCC. It won’t be an easy task given the certain challenges and changes we face. Together with the Police Authority, colleagues, partners and communities, I will strive to ensure that we move forward throughout 2012 and beyond as well placed as we can to continue being one of the safest places in the Country. I remain immensely proud of our Officers and Staff, and thank them and the Police Authority for their continued support throughout my service. I am really looking forward to my future years as DCC of North Yorkshire Police.
