Sponsored dog walk in HarrogateFamily fun: Harrogate’s Rob and Josh Shuker with Domino and Scrabble

Local families and their four-legged friends are set to put some ‘welly’ into a fun-filled fundraiser in aid of Saint Michael’s.

The charity’s sponsored dog walk, called Woofs and Wellies, will take place on Sunday March 4, 2012, at Stockeld Park in Wetherby.

It is the first time that dogs will be permitted at Stockeld Park and organisers are urging families from across the Harrogate district to take advantage of the opportunity.

People and their pooches are already signing up for the event, which attracted almost 200 participants in its inaugural outing in Knaresborough earlier this year.

Woofs and Wellies aims to raise money to help improve the lives of people living with terminal illness and bereavement in the area.

Saint Michael’s chief executive, Tony Collins, said:

Woofs and Wellies was such a great occasion earlier this year so we are really excited to be doing it again.

Stockeld Park is a fantastic venue for the walk. It’s the first time anything like this has happened there so I’m sure it will be a big attraction for many dog owners right across the Harrogate district.

We have set up a 2.5km route and a 5km route to cater for participants and dogs of varying fitness levels, with activities and stalls available at the finish to keep everyone entertained.

It’s a real spectacle with so many families, couples, friends and dogs altogether and plenty of fun so we’re sure it will be another fantastic event.

Entry to Woofs and Wellies is £6 for adults and free for under 16s until January 31, 2012 and then £4 afterwards.

All walkers will begin along the same route and will then fork off along either the 2.5km or 5km tracks so participants can make their decision as they go.

Saint Michael’s needs £3.9m each year to maintain its current level of service. More than 80 per cent of this figure has to be raised by the community through gifts left by people in their wills, general donations and fundraising events like Woofs and Wellies.

The event, which is sponsored for the second year running by Knaresborough’s Forest House Veterinary Surgery, will begin at 10am on Sunday March 4, 2012 and registration will close on Friday February 24, 2012.

To register your place contact Saint Michael’s on (01423) 879 687 Monday to Friday between 9am and 5pm.
