Man badly injured during attack at the Matrix nightclub in Ripon

24 November 2011

PoliceDetectives are investigating an assault at a nightclub in Ripon which left a man with serious facial injuries.

The 32-year-old victim is currently recovering in York District Hospital following surgery to repair fractures to his cheek and orbital bones.

He was enjoying a night out in the Matrix club, on Kirkgate, on Sunday 13 November 2011, when a disturbance occurred at around 1.30am, involving a number of young men.

During the incident, the victim was badly injured and was taken by ambulance to Harrogate District Hospital. He was later moved to York for surgery to repair the damage caused to his face.

Officers, who have been making enquiries in the area including checking CCTV footage in and around the night club, are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Detective Sergeant Dave Horne, of Harrogate CID, said:

The incident took place in the main area of the club, in full view of other club-goers and we know from our enquiries that a lot of people will potentially have witnessed what happened.

I would encourage those people to do the right thing and have the decency to come forward so we can establish exactly how a man ended up in hospital suffering from serious injuries, which could potentially cost him his sight in one eye.

If you have any knowledge of this incident or were in the club at the time, please contact the police or Crimestoppers with information.

Anyone who can help the police with their enquiries is urged to contact DS Dave Horne, or Detective Constable Keith Turner, of Harrogate CID, on 0845 60 60 24 7, quoting reference number 12110194534.
