Local lad given a big break by hits radio station

1 November 2011

radioNational radio station, The Hits Radio has signed up Pete Allison from Harrogate to host a new show.

20 year old Pete is a final year broadcast journalism student at Nottingham Trent University.

He regularly presents on the university radio station, Fly FM, and has this week also been nominated in the category for Best Male and Best Entertainment Show at this year’s Student Radio Awards; the results of which will be revealed on 9 November at Indig02 at London’s 02 Arena.

Pete already has a history with The Hits Radio. Earlier this year he came second in ‘The Hits Radio’s Future Stars’ competition, winning the opportunity to work with the station.

His new show will be on Sunday nights from 10pm to 1am and will come alongside other opportunities to cover shows across the station.

Pete said:

I’m extremely excited about joining The Hits Radio. It’s been a real honour to have been involved with the station at different points over the past few months and I’m very pleased to have the opportunity to now join the weekend schedule.

It’s been a special week as I’ve also had the news about the nominations for the Student Radio Awards – I can’t wait to get started!

Paul Fernley, The Hits Radio’s programmes manager added:

We’ve always been committed to giving new talent the chance to grow and develop at The Hits Radio. Pete’s warmth, charm and ability made us realise that we would be stupid not to sign him up full time. With this coming just after his second consecutive Student Radio Award Awards nomination, it looks like he’s got a bright future ahead of him.
