York police hunt road rage suspect

25 May 2011

Police investigating a road rage incident in York are appealing for witnesses to help with their enquiries.

At around 8am on Tuesday 24 May 2011, a woman driving a red Mini Cooper just managed to avoid a collision with a blue Citroen van on the A19/A64 Fulford interchange roundabout.

Following the near miss, the driver of the van, who had joined the roundabout at the designer outlet junction, got out of his vehicle and began verbally abusing the woman.

The woman, fearing that she was about to be attacked, drove off in the direction of York.

Police are appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision to come forward with information.

PC Cheryl Hunter, of York police, said: “This was obviously a frightening experience for the victim who genuinely feared she was going to be attacked.

“The incident occurred at a time when there is usually quite a lot of traffic travelling in and out of York, therefore it may be possible that someone witnessed the incident.

“I would urge anyone who saw what happened or can help identify the offender to contact the police or Crimestoppers with information.”

Anyone who can help the investigation is urged to contact PC Cheryl Hunter, of York police on 0845 60 60 24 7, quoting reference number 12110084590.

Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111.
