A permanent repair is underway at a major junction following the successful isolation of a damaged underground cable section.
Local News Desk — 3rd June 2026 — Utility engineers have successfully isolated a faulty section of underground cable at the junction of Bilton Hall Drive and High Street following a network issue localized earlier today. Specialist repair teams are currently on-site working to complete a permanent fix on the damaged infrastructure.
To mitigate local disruption, network operators have utilized advanced remote configuration systems managed directly via the central Network Control Room. This technology allows controllers to dynamically alter electricity pathways on alternate parts of the grid grid architecture, safely back-feeding supplies to alternative lines while physical works continue on the ground.
Thanks to these remote switching capabilities, power has been successfully rerouted to alternative network feeds. This operational strategy ensures a continuous, uninterrupted electricity supply for affected local customers while the permanent infrastructure repairs and replacement works are brought to completion.
A spokesperson for Northern Powergrid said:
At 11.02am on Tuesday 2 June we were alerted to an underground high voltage fault in Harrogate, affecting 6,200 customers.
Within thirteen minutes our teams successfully restored power to 5,200 customers by switching electricity to alternate routes on our network. The remaining 1,200 customers were restored within 2 hours and 43 minutes.
Work continues to carry out a permanent repair on the underground cable, which is expected to be completed this weekend.
