Ripon busy with autumn events to help combat global poverty

3 October 2025

Charity supporters in Ripon have a busy autumn ahead, with a programme of events run by supporters of international development agency Christian Aid.

Organiser Dorothy Gray explained:

It starts with the Ripon Together Green Fair, on Saturday, October 11 from 10am-4pm at All Hallowgate Methodist Church.

It’s organised by Ripon Together and includes a stall for Christian Aid offering preloved and donated goods for sale. There will be shoes, handbags, scarves and costume jewellery.

Then there is an Autumn Supper in the Cathedral on October 18, an informal friendly and fun evening, followed by a concert and quiz on November 14 in the Arches at Holy Trinity Ripon – all to raise funds for Christian Aid’s work to help combat poverty around the world.

Looking further ahead, an exhibition to coincide with COP30 is booked for November 11-18 in the north transept of the Cathedral shop. Climate Conference COP 30 will be held in Belem, Brazil and our local exhibition will be a call to prayer and reflection. Then the Christmas Fayre organised by the Cathedral comes up on November 21 and 22 from 10am-4pm.

We hope people will come to some or all of these events to help raise funds and awareness. This year is Christian Aid’s 80th anniversary. Over those 80 years, Christian Aid has stood up for communities in crisis and supported people living in poverty, seeking to eradicate extreme poverty by tackling its root causes, and sharing and distributing power.

The programme of autumn fundraising events includes:

  • October 11, the Christian Aid stall at Ripon Green Fair at All Hallowgate Methodist Church, 10am-4pm.
  • October 18, from 6.30pm, an autumn supper in the south transept of the Cathedral. Following the supper there will be a raffle and beetle drive. Tickets are available for £12 at the Cathedral shop or from Dorothy Gray (dorothygray1152@gmail.com). There will also be a cash wine bar.
