Kendall’s Farm Butchers is serving up championship-winning prime pork at its two shops in Pateley Bridge and Harrogate for customers’ festive tables.
Kendall’s has now taken delivery of a trio of pure home-bred gilts that clinched the title at Skipton Auction Mart’s annual Christmas prime pigs show when shown by local breeder Daniel Thackray, of Prospect House Pietrains in Fewston.
They were picked out by the show judge, Simon Barker, who runs Barkers Yorkshire Butchers at the fully EC-registered meat production unit at mart, then purchased by him at £208 each purposely on behalf of award-winning Kendall’s Farm Butchers, one of his regular customers.
The pork has now gone on sale for the Christmas trade at Kendall’s two shops in High Street, Pateley Bridge, and Skipton Road, Harrogate, in all the popular cuts, including festive roasts, chops and pork loin, as well as home-made bacon, sausages and pork pies, which are really popular at Christmas. Nothing will go to waste.
The pork supplements other prime cuts of beef and lamb on the Kendall’s Farm Butchers festive menu – the business is also a regular buyer of prize-winning prime lambs at Skipton.
Owner Paul Kendall explained:
Customers at both our shops fully deserve the best meat that money can buy at this special time of the year and especially after such a difficult year.
We like to buy locally wherever and whenever possible – the champion pigs were bred virtually on our doorstep! – as this ensures we can guarantee both the quality and provenance of the meat, as well as helping keep food miles to a minimum.
Back at the mart, Mr Barker, from Hampsthwaite, claimed all three of his prize-winning pens, the other two both consigned by D&A Livestock, of Prospect Farm, Haverah Park. Two from the second prize and reserve champion pen went to Mackenzies Farm Shop in Hardisty Hill, Blubberhouses, the remainder to regular Barkers Yorkshire Butchers customers, who comprise regional retail butchers, farm shops and the hospitality sector.
