Rossett School’s annual Year 11 Presentation Evening – celebrating GCSE success in a challenging year

7 December 2020

Rossett School’s annual Year 11 Presentation Evening, which celebrates the achievements of the previous year’s GCSE students, has been held online for the first time.

The event is usually hosted in school but this year, due to national restrictions, the school took the decision to celebrate virtually.

Headteacher Helen Woodcock said:

Despite the restrictions and challenges we face at the moment, it’s important to focus on the positives and to continue holding our annual events which are such a key part of our school life.

So there was no doubt in our minds that the Year 11 Presentation Evening would go ahead. Indeed, in such a challenging year, it seemed more important than ever to hold this special event that acknowledges the hard work and commitment shown by last summer’s Year 11 students, staff and parents.

The virtual event included a speech from Ms Woodcock and the presentation of subject awards and special trophies for outstanding academic performance in individual subjects. Accolades were also given to students who had shown exceptional achievement in academic progress citizenship, core values, and contribution to the life of the school. Students and teachers then shared their memories and highlights of their five years together at school.

Ms Woodock added:

It’s been a year like no other and we are so proud of all our students who received GCSE and BTEC qualifications in the summer. They showed extraordinary determination and resilience in facing the additional stresses posed by the pandemic in the run-up to their exams. They then faced further challenges because of the nationwide changes to the grading of results. So for each of them to achieve the level of success that they did is absolutely amazing.
