Harrogate Town

Harrogate Town 0  – 0 Wrexham

20 October 2018

Harrogate Town will be in Monday’s draw for the first round proper of The Emirates F A Cup,but they will have to triumph in a replay at Wrexham on Tuesday, to make any further progress, after a goalless draw at the CNG.

The visiting Dragons threatened first with Luke Young driving wide of James Belshaw’s goal from twenty yards.
However,it was Town who looked the more dangerous on the attack and the visitng goal began to have a charmed life.

Joe Leesley broke down the left and crossed for George Thomson, whose shot was blocked by Rob Lainton in the Wrexham goal, the ball rebounded to Aaron Williams, but his follow up was diverted for a corner.

Thomson’s corner picked out Leesley in front of goal but his header thudded against the Dragon,s crossbar.
Town kept up the pressure and an excellent move featuring Thomson,Liam Kitching and Leesley ended with Williams heading over the bar.
Jordan Thewlis was next into the act when he met a Leesley cross at the far post, but Lainton saved the Dragon,s goal with a fine save.

Wrexham began to hit Town on the break and both Kelvin Langmead and Warren Burrell had to make timely interceptions to halt dangerous attacks by the Welshmen.

The tall twin strike force of Mike Fondop-Talom and Akil Wright were posing a constant threat to the Town rearguard but they were unable to fashion any clear cut chances.

The first action of the second half saw Fondom-Talom break clear and net for Wrexham but the Assistant’s flag had already been raised for offside.

Paul Rutherford found himself clear on the left for the visitors and his cross caused some consternation in the home defence, but Jack Emmett managed to finally hook the ball clear.

Emmett then won a corner, but his effort rebounded off Kitching for a goal kick, while at the other end a Shaun Pearson back header was straight at Belshaw.

Town threw on all three subs in an effort to break the deadlock, and soon Beck’s stab across the area found Thomson in space, but he dwelt on the ball and his shot was charged down.

As the match entered stoppage time,a powerful run and cross from Leesley found Beck in front of goal ,but unfortunately his header was just over the bar.
