Bromley 1  – 1 Harrogate Town

11 August 2018

Harrogate Town are rapidly becoming the draw specialists of the National League, as a second half goal from Dom Knowles gave them a point at Bromley.

Town were unchanged from Tuesday’s visit to Hartlepool and they almost made a sensational start.

The opening blast from Referee Quelch’s whistle had barely subsided when George Thomson broke through the home defence, but his effort was blocked by keeper,David Gregory.

Unfortunately for Town,it was the Ravens who made the breakthrough after twelve minutes, when ex Burnley striker,George Porter, fired into the bottom left hand corner of Town’s goal from the edge of the area.

Town’s hero of Tuesday evening,Callum Howe, almost levelled minutes later, but his header from Thomson’s cross was cleared off the line.
Bromley began to turn the screw with Porter hitting the upright and then James Belshaw made a series of fine saves from Porter and Omar Bugiel to prevent the Ravens from stretching their lead.

A strike early in the second half from Porter took a wicked deflection off Howe, but once again Belshaw was equal to the occasion.
However, this was the high water mark for Bromley,as Town began to hit back strongly.

Gregory did well to block Jack Muldoon’s powerful drive, before Jack Emmett and Knowles combined to set up Aaron Williams, but his shot was denied by the woodwork.

Thomson and Muldoon made way for Lloyd Kerry and Joe Leesley as Town sought an equaliser and with seventeen minutes left their endeavours were rewarded.

An attack down the right saw Kerry and Warren Burrell release Emmett and his low cross evaded Gregory, leaving Knowles with a simple tap in.

Both sides had late chances, with the excellent Belshaw tipping a Jack Holland header round the post, while at the other end, Gregory blocked a Williams shot after good work from Emmett.

Town have an early opportunity to record their first win of the season when they entertain Barnet on Tuesday evening.
