Harrogate Railway Ladies win against Doncaster Belles

6 August 2018

Harrogate Railway Ladies are back in action getting ready for the new season, with a preseason friendly two weeks back against AFC Doncaster Railway struggled to cope with the pace and the extreme heat losing 2-5.

After some much needed training on and of the ball! Railway had to travel to Selby to play Brayton Belles in the annual Jim Robinson Challenge cup on Thursday night (2 August) which Railway won last year at station view. Brayton have a new younger squad for this season and their pace and skill showed from the start. Railway did control the for the first 15 minutes with a couple of good shots on target but not beating Brayton’s keeper, however Brayton broke down the middle on the 18th minute to open the scoring1-0.

Brayton continued to dominate the rest of the game and it took until the 83rd minute for Railway to equalize and force the game to penalty’s. Railway came out on top with the dreaded shootout winning 3-4 and retaining the glass trophy.

On 5 august Railway played host to Doncaster Belles, again in very hot weather conditions, and put in a terrific team performance winning 2-1.

A great performance from two stand in keepers, Kat Swinn and Erica Brirnie help keep Doncaster out and with two great goals from Emma Lansdall and Lorna Cooper helped to take the pain away for some of the girls who picked up a couple of injuries during the match. Railway are having a good preseason this year and given the fact that Skipton Road Garage has confirmed their continued sponsorship for this new season things are looking good for the Ladies AT Station View.

The ladies train on a Wednesday night starting at 6-30pm at station view and we are always looking for new players young and old to come along to bolster the squad. Please contact Simon on 07740591697 for more info
