Harrogate Railway Ladies 2017

Harrogate Railway Ladies bow out of League Cup

25 February 2018

Harrogate Railway Ladies finally bowed out of the league cup today loosing 1-0 against premiere league team Farsley Celtic. Railway started with great enthusiasm and really took the game to Farsley from the start and within 6 minutes Emma Lansdall was testing the Farsley keeper who pulled off a great save, the first half was a very tight half as both teams created chances but for the efforts of both keepers the score stayed 0-0 at half time.

Railway are normally slow at the restart but not today and for the first 13 minutes it was all Railway, Jodi Hodgson and Katherine Coupland, rails midfielders, were awesome wining tackles and getting the ball forward as rail dominated the start. Farsley held on and slowly found their own rhythm again, with some great passing football they hammered at rails back four but each time they were shut down as they tried to get in front. Emma Lansdall broke out to the left on three occasions and got off three great strikes only for two to go just wide skimming the post and one saved from the diving Farsley keeper. And like wise Nicola Hadley was also denied as she tried to beat the keeper as she attacked from the right and down the middle.

With 8 minutes to go Farsley finally got the breakthrough they were looking for and with four very slick passing moves across the box they slotted home for the winning goal. Railway pressed hard for the equalizer but there efforts were shut out and the clock ran out of time, a hard fought win for Farsley but the team performance from the Railway ladies was a victory in its own right and even the home team supporters applauded the Railway ladies as they left the pitch.

Next week Railway are at home to Doncaster Belles and if they play like they did today a victory is surely there’s for the taking KO is 2pm at station view.
