Harrogate Railway
Brighouse Town v Harrogate Railway

Brighouse Town 2 – 0 Harrogate Railway

20 July 2016

Two goals in a five-minute spell just after half time saw Harrogate Railway lose their latest pre-season game away at Brighouse Town.

Railway started the game without some of their key players, including Dan Barrett and Stephen Bromley. Their troubles mounted shortly after the whistle blew as Chris Ovington was forced off with concussion following an accidental blow to the head.

The first half was a fairly even affair as both sides tried to pass the ball around on a sweltering evening in the sun.

Railway had the better of the chances, with Ryan Sharrocks forcing Tom Taylor in the Brighouse goal to make a great save low to his right, pushing the ball out for a corner.

Shortly after, Izzy Mbire had a shot blocked by the Brighouse defender, only for it to rebound kindly to him and allowing a second attempt. This time Taylor made an exceptional save to push the ball around the post for another corner.

The teams went in at half time all square, but not for the want of trying.

The second half started brightly, with Town looking to make an early breakthrough.

On 47 minutes a ball into the box from Field found it’s way to the feet of Buchanan who calmly finished to make it 1-0 to Town.

From the restart, Brighouse pressed forward and on 52 minutes, Ernest Boafo made it 2-0 with the assist from Ash Scully.

Railway regrouped and pushed to get back into the game. Izzy Mbire had another chance to get on the score sheet when his shot from the angle forced a good save from an advancing Tom Taylor.

Harrogate Railway’s best chance to score came with around ten minutes left to play and saw the ball run across the Town penalty box to Danny Coates, only for him to blaze his shot over the bar with the goal gaping.

The remainder of the play for the half was in midfield, with no clear-cut chances for either side.

The penultimate pre-season game for Harrogate Railway is on Saturday at 3pm and sees their closest neighbours, Harrogate Town visit Station View to contest the John Smiths Trophy.
