International taekwondo tournament proves a hit in Harrogate

12 July 2016

Dozens of the world’s leading martial artists descended on Harrogate as Rossett Sports Centre hosted an international taekwondo event.

More than 50 delegates from around the world attended the two-day International Poomsae Seminar, organised through Harrogate K R Ali Taekwondo Academy.

With tuition from Grandmaster Ik Pil Kang, who had travelled to the event from South Korea, attendees were able to develop their skills and learn new techniques.

Sports centre manager Josh Lyon said:

The taekwondo academy practises here at Rossett, so when its Master, Kambiz Ali, suggested bringing the event to Harrogate, we knew we wanted to host it here.

Master Ali said:

I am extremely proud of how well the two-day seminar went.

“The quality of students that have attended this weekend has been exceptional and being able to learn from Grandmaster Kang is a great honour.

Among the highlights was a demonstration of acrobatic taekwondo by the children of the Korean Martial Arts Institute in Incheon City.

Josh added:

It was a fantastic event here at Rossett, and we really enjoyed welcoming our international visitors.

They were welcomed by a whole host of VIPs in Harrogate, including our MP Andrew Jones and the Mayor of Harrogate, Coun Nick Brown. There are growing ties between Harrogate and South Korea, and it’s great to be contributing to those links.
