Harrogate “iron man” joins Cooper & Hall’s team of quantity surveyors

An IT expert, whose interest in the built environment began whilst teaching in the Middle East, is the latest recruit to join an expanding Harrogate firm of quantity surveyors.

Howard Gilmour has been employed as a trainee QS by Cooper & Hall, and will be based at its offices on Pannal Business Park.

In addition to learning the ropes from his colleagues, the 34-year-old – who regularly competes in triathlons and has completed an “Iron Man” contest in Nice, France – will spend two years studying for an MSc in Quantity Surveying.

Led by directors Phil Cooper, Graham Hall and Ian Wilcock, Cooper & Hall provides support and guidance to private clients, insolvency practitioners, main contractors, sub-contractors and solicitors.

Managing director Phil Cooper said:

I’m delighted to welcome Howard to the growing Cooper & Hall team.

He has a mature head on his shoulders and, with a background in economics and IT, he will bring an added dimension to the team.

With the continued boom in construction our workload is increasing on a weekly basis, hence us being in the position to boost our workforce.

Howard, who studied economics at Oxfords Brookes University, said:

When I moved Kuwait to teach IT, there was nothing between my apartment and the sea.

However, over the space of a few years, the area was totally transformed by developers, and it was this that sparked my interest in the built environment.

On coming back to the UK, I decided on a change in career, hence me joining Cooper & Hall.

They are great team to work with and in the short time I’ve been with them I’ve worked on a number of projects for a variety of different clients.
