North Yorkshire County Council eleventh-hour change to parking charge proposal

18 November 2015

North Yorkshire County Council have made a eleventh hour change to the Harrogate parking charge changes, ahead of the Area Committee.

The plans have scrapped the £2 flat fee evening charge, but there would be an extension of daytime charges until 7pm.

There are still proposals for Sunday charges, but with an extension until 6pm.

The amended proposal is:

  • Mon-Sat parking charges between 8am until 7pm (no fee after that)
  • Sunday charges to apply between 10am-6pm

The original proposal was for a flat fee £2 evening charge to be introduced after 6pm

Sunday charges were initially proposed to operate from 8am to 6pm, that was revised only 6 days ago to 10am until 5pm.

This is the proposal that will now be debated at the North Yorkshire County Council Area Committee tomorrow (19 November 2015)

The committee can only make a recommendation, with the final decision being made by Corporate Director, David Bowe and the two BES Executive members, Chris Metcalfe and Don Mackenzie. That decision will be taken on 27 November 2015.

Councillor Richard Cooper can oppose the changes and force the decision to be made by a vote from the Executive Committee. This is in Councillor Cooper’s role as County Councillor for the Central Division, the area effected.
