Leeds car-jackings linked to Harrogate robbery

Police are investigating a number of ‘carjacking’ incidents in Leeds this morning that followed a robbery at a Harrogate jewellers.

The offenders left the scene of the robbery in Harrogate town centre in a van at about 8.40am and were then involved in a series of incidents as they travelled into Leeds. Two vehicles were stolen from their owners in separate incidents and attempts were made to steal three other vehicles. The Leeds incidents were mainly in the Kirkstall Road area.

Detective Inspector Ian Lawrence, of Leeds District CID, said: “Wide-ranging enquiries to trace these offenders are ongoing at the moment and we are liaising with other police forces. There are a number of scenes in place where the offenders took vehicles or attempted to take vehicles from their owners.

These incidents will have been seen by a number of people and I would appeal for anyone who witnessed any of these events to contact us.
