Acceleris takes a double win at PR awards

1 December 2014

Acceleris has added two more trophies to its list of national and international award successes.

The agency, which has offices in Harrogate and central London, secured Gold in two categories at the 2014 Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) PRide Awards for Yorkshire and Lincolnshire – recognised as the industry’s most prestigious awards programme and which received over 1,100 entries in 2014.

The agency won ‘Best Issues or Crisis Management Campaign’ for its work with the National Federation of Fishermen’s Organisations (NFFO) in championing sustainable fishing, in a campaign which has seen the body lead industry debates across both traditional and social media platforms, with exposure ranging from Newsnight and BBC Breakfast to Radio Two.

Judges said of the campaign: We were very impressed by the wide variety of channels used to good effect and the creativity used, set against a very challenging brief.

We particularly liked how social media was used but traditional PR tools were used to compliment it. In all, a very well researched and well thought out campaign which smashed its targeted objectives and help turn a negative issue into a very positive outcome for the fishing industry.

Senior Account Manager, Ellie Smith, was also crowned ‘Outstanding Young Communicator’ particularly for her work across a number of the agency’s national trade body clients, with judges commending her for ‘demonstrating a clear understanding of the wider remit of public relations – going beyond the tactics (of traditional and social) to provide effective counsel for clients and stakeholders’.

The agency was also named as a finalist in the ‘Best Use of Media Relations’ category for the same campaign championing sustainable fishing on behalf of the NFFO.

Louise Vaughan, Director and Head of PR, said: There are some excellent agencies within the region so it’s pleasing to see our campaigns up there with the very best in the profession.

Our work within the maritime sector has grown exponentially over the last two years with our work now spanning the UK and increasingly the EU, and so it’s fantastic for the quality of our campaigns to be recognised in this way.

I’m absolutely thrilled for Ellie. Her award is thoroughly well deserved and underpins the incredibly high calibre of our team and the high level, commercially-focused approach we offer to our clients.
