Rossett Singing

Musical debut for Rossett students

9 October 2014

New students at Rossett are already showing their talents after just a month at the school.

The September Surprise concert offered the perfect opportunity for more than 130 students – around half of the year group – to demonstrate what they have learned in music lessons.

It was also the first big occasion for Robin Durbin, the school’s new head of music, who took the reins after Kay Bromhead retired in July.

Robin Durbin said: Despite its name, September Surprise took place in early October. It is a culmination of a lot of hard work and practice by students and teachers in the first month of the new academic year.

In front of a sell-out crowd, the students gave a huge range of performances, from classical tunes on piano and flute to songs from musicals and films. The evening concluded with the Year 7 Choir singing a lively version of Queen’s Don’t Stop Me Now for a delighted audience.

Mr Durbin added: I couldn’t have asked for a better start to the Year 7 music experience at Rossett. The students all put in a huge amount of effort and performed exceptionally for the audience.

I have no doubt that we’ve seen some Rossett stars of the future already and I can’t wait to see what else they can achieve during their time with us.
