Man now confirmed to have died in serious collision south of Harrogate

There was a single vehicle collision near Harrogate at the roundabout with the A61 and A658 earlier today (17 May 2014). The location is also known as Buttersyke Bar.

The police have now confirmed that the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, a man in his fifties from Leeds, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene of the collision.

The collision was reported at 4.09pm when the silver BMW 1 series, which was travelling from the Knaresborough direction, left the road as it negotiated the roundabout and came to rest in a hedge.

The car was travelling along the A658, also known as Harrogate by-pass, and police are appealing for witnesses to the crash and to anyone who saw the BMW prior to the collision, to contact them.

Both the A61 and A658 were closed with local diversions put in place. This was to allow collision investigators to examine the scene and to allow the vehicle to be recovered. All roads were reopened by 10pm.

The identity of the deceased has not been released.
