Harrogate hairdresser qualifies as Master Colour Expert

26 November 2013

Hair stylist Jenna Beckworth of Dangerfield & Keane in Harrogate, has achieved one of the most advanced hair colour qualifications becoming a a Master Colour Expert after successfully completing a comprehensive eight month Wella training programme.

Twenty-five year old Jenna who lives in Horsforth, Leeds, has been a stylist at Dangerfield & Keane’s Coldbath Road salon for the last two and a half years. She was the only stylist from Harrogate to pass this time, becoming one of only 150 people in the UK to be a Master Colour Expert, only a handful of whom are in Yorkshire.

Jenna said:

It was an extremely intensive programme progressing through four stages with course work throughout and exams at the end of each stage. We moved from studying basic colouring techniques to the science, biology and history of hair colour and colour correction techniques.

The final stage is by invitation only and covers the chemistry of colour, extreme colour correction, the psychology of colour and maintaining healthy hair. It culminates in a technical exam in which candidates are presented with pre-coloured hair in four sections comprising khaki green, red with black banding throughout, white blonde and jet black, which we have to colour back to a dark blonde base. It is extremely challenging even for an experienced colourist and having invested so much in my training, I was determined to make the salon proud of me.

Founder of Dangerfield & Keane,well-known local stylist, Gerri Keane comments:

This is one of the highest accolades a colourist can achieve – it’s a real honour to be selected to undertake the final stage of the programme and this exam has a very high failure rate as each section of hair must be exactly the same colour as the swatch as well as being in good condition.

Jenna has done exceptionally well, graduating with an 89% score, and, after all of her hard work, this qualification is well-deserved. Having joined us nearly three years ago as a graduate stylist, she has progressed with us to reach a senior level, being promoted to our top level of principle in New Year. As well as using her expertise on her own clients, she will also be sharing the latest colouring knowledge and techniques with the rest of the team here.

Established in March 2008, Dangerfield & Keane has grown from four staff to a 14-strong team over the last five years as well as expanding its Coldbath Road premises.
