Motorists who put other road users at risk by speeding will be the focus of attention across the North Yorkshire this week.
This is part of the TISPOL (European Traffic Police Network) Europe-wide speed awareness campaign, aimed at raising motorists’ awareness of the dangers of speeding as well as enforcing speed limits.
The week of action begins on Monday 19 August and runs until Sunday 25 August 2013.
Also targeted in the campaign will be people drink driving, using mobile phones and not wearing seatbelts while they are behind the wheel.
If you think that speeding is only a trivial offence you need to think again. Excessive and inappropriate speeding not only raises the risk of you being involved in a collision, but also the severity of injury you and others involved would suffer.
It is believed that around a quarter of collisions resulting in death or serious injury involves at least one vehicle travelling in excess of the speed limit.
Drivers who break the law by drinking, using a mobile phone while driving or not wearing a seatbelt need to be aware that they will be in our sights and will be stopped when we spot them.
