Traffic Sergeant Julian Pearson, of North Yorkshire Police’s Roads Policing Group, said:

Unfortunately, a man was seriously injured in the collision and it is important that we investigate how the incident occurred.

I am appealing to anyone who saw an elderly couple travelling towards York in a silver Ford Focus prior to the collision occurring to get in touch with the police as soon as possible. You may have information vital to our enquiries.

I would also like to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision itself.

Anyone who can help officers with their enquiries is urged to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101 – select option 2 – and ask for Julian Pearson.

Alternatively, information can be emailed to julian.pearson@northyorkshire.pnn.police.uk
